ONLINE RESOURCE HUB

Tidbits

Lots of good resources to recommend this week, and I’m changing up my format to keep it short and sweet.  Let me know what you think.  As always, thanks for being here and helping young adults with disabilities learn to bloom.  If you’re new, don’t forget to subscribe. Welcome one and all.

Be strong, be fearless, be beautiful. And believe that anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you.

  • “It’s time to get out the vaccine.”  Here’s a link to all kinds of factual info specifically for folks with developmental disabilities.  It even has a “find a vaccine” feature and lots of great Q&As.  Share with those you love.

  • True Link is an online platform that allows you to use a prepaid Visa card to make purchases from an ABLE account or Special Needs Trust.  It offers help with record-keeping and helps ensure purchases comply with all Social Security guidelines.  Promises to save time and stress.  Worth a try?

  • The Unicorn Foundation is an international non-profit that helps children and young adults with developmental, communication and learning disorders through education, awareness and research.  Founded by a physician and special needs parent, the Florida-based organization offers a host of services, including a hotline, respite training, and new virtual/online classes for folks experiencing “Covid burnout.”  Barista training? Spanish club? Intro to photography?  Maybe there’s something here to help invigorate the life of someone you love.

  • One of my favorite events is just around the corner.  The NYC Reelabilities Film Festival runs April 29-May 5.  And the lineup is amazing!  Everything can be viewed online and tickets are available here.  There are wonderful films for parents, individuals with disabilities, and even “family movie night.”  Start popping the corn.  I’m ready.  What look good to you?

  • I enjoy reading books that take me away from my own reality; however, I also love a book that draws parallels between my life and something completely different. Between Two Kingdoms appears to be the perfect combination.  When I recently read this review it spoke to me.  Perhaps you’ll hear something special, too.  "This book will resonate with anyone who is living a different life than they planned to live. It is a propulsive, soulful story of mourning and gratitude--and an intimate portrait of one woman's sojourn in the wilderness between life and death.”  Quite an endorsement from quite an author, Educated’s Tara Westover.  Happy reading.

  • More travel experts to assist with accessible adventures.  Check them out here and have fun planning.  It’s gonna happen.

  • Here’s a quick read that might inspire you to do things differently today.  The title says it all.  “How to Tap into the Extraordinary Delight of Ordinary Life.”  Enjoy.

And because we all need a reminder to worry less and sing more…

Until next week…
