A Powerful Gift for All

Thinking about the future can be scary. But planning for it is vital. After all, most parents predecease their children. And although we can't predict our children's future, we can plan for our inevitable departure.
Rather than facing this responsibility in fear, we can adjust our mindsets to see future planning as a gift -- to our children with and without special needs, to our extended family, and to ourselves.
I've seen lots of webinars that address this challenging aspect of raising kids with complex needs. And I'm proud to say that I recently contributed to one that went above and beyond the standard agenda. Let me explain.
Earlier this month, I was honored to serve on a panel of experts for a webinar sponsored by Connecticut's Special Education Legal Fund (S.E.L.F). Seasoned experts from Wealthspire Advisors and I shared perspective, guidance, and support to hundreds of webinar participants seeking to better understand the challenges of future planning. And we defined this somewhat intimidating parental responsibility in a kinder-and-friendlier way, which is what I address at the very beginning of the recording below.
Rather than diving right into financial tools and legal jargon associated with planning for your child's future, the first half of our webinar addresses how parents can take small steps to make all of this less daunting. This starts by adjusting our mindsets to see the benefits of this work rather than just the scary or expensive parts.
Everyone on the panel is the parent of a child with special needs, and everyone speaks from the heart and shares expertise from a place of care and compassion. Of course we discuss government benefits, special needs trusts, and ABLE accounts. But we also just talk about adjusting our perspectives, giving ourselves grace, and knowing that whatever we plan for can be adjusted as our children bloom and grow and maybe even surpass their dreams and ours, too.
This is a uniquely personal webinar that I think all parents of complex kids will benefit from watching.
And if you're ready to take that initial step: Click on the yellow banner at the top of the page to download my free planning tools, including a very helpful "Letter of Intent" outline. As I explain in the recorded discussion, I found great comfort in creating this for our son with disabilities. I hope you will, too.
